Ardus Kaine is a human Grand Moff from Sartinaynian — the world later renamed Bastion and made the Imperial Remnant's capital. He is a Star Wars Legends character, and an unusual one: Wookieepedia records no story appearance for him at all, only mentions. His entire biography lives in reference material, which makes him a useful reminder of how much of the Expanded Universe was assembled in sourcebooks rather than in fiction.

Promoted to Grand Moff after Tarkin's death at Yavin, Kaine regarded the posting as an exile from the centre of things and resented it accordingly. It turned out to be the most valuable real estate in the post-Endor galaxy, because it was far away.
The Pentastar Alignment
After the Emperor's death he convened the Pentastar Talks and assembled Imperial governors and corporate interests into an isolationist bloc — a state built on the proposition that the Galactic Civil War was now somebody else's problem. Member businesses kept trading; the New Republic was kept at arm's length; and Kaine ran the whole thing as an autocrat with a good speaking voice.
Killed by a Grand Admiral
In 10 ABY, during the Palanhi campaign, New Republic E-wings destroyed his shuttle. The trap was set by Grand Admiral Octavian Grant, whom Kaine believed was returning to the fold. The Pentastar Alignment was absorbed into Pellaeon's Imperial Remnant in 12 ABY, which is how Bastion became a capital.
