Burryaga Agaburry is a Wookiee Jedi from Kashyyyk, created and named by Charles Soule for Light of the Jedi (Del Rey, 2021). Soule has said he picked the name largely because it is enjoyable to say, which is the kind of origin story you only get from a writer who knows a Wookiee's name will be in every caption for three years.

Empathy as a Force power

He is written as an unusually sensitive Jedi — he registers distress in others before they express it, which in a publishing initiative built around mass-casualty disasters gives him a specific and frequently horrible job. His master, the human Jedi Nib Assek, learned Shyriiwook so that she could teach him properly, a small detail that says more about the High Republic Order's self-image than several chapters of exposition.

The lightsaber

Burryaga carries a blue crossguard lightsaber, a design the creative team explicitly linked to Arthurian sword imagery. Wookiee Jedi are rare enough in the fiction that the design work around him tends to get discussed; this one is deliberate.

Where to read him

Light of the Jedi, Claudia Gray's Into the Dark (2021), and The Fallen Star (2022), where the Nameless arrive on Starlight Beacon and being the most empathic person in the room becomes a liability. He is also a recurring presence in Marvel's The High Republic.
