Cut Lawquane is a clone trooper who deserted after a catastrophic engagement and settled on Saleucami with a Twi'lek widow and her two children. He is introduced in the second-season Clone Wars episode "The Deserter" (2010), voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
The episode is a two-hander between Cut and a wounded Rex, and its subject is the only real choice a clone has. Cut's argument is simple and it is not rebutted: he was made, not recruited; he never enlisted; the Republic's claim on him is a receipt, not an oath. Rex's counter-argument is loyalty to the men beside him, which is true and is also not a claim the Republic has any right to make on his behalf.
Rex leaves without reporting him. That decision, made in a farmhouse in season two, is the first sign that the captain will one day be able to fight his own conditioning — and Cut is the only clone in the series who gets an ordinary life, on the page, with a family and a surname he chose.
