Garen Muln is a human Jedi from Obi-Wan Kenobi's own initiate year group, introduced in Jedi Apprentice: The Rising Force (Scholastic, 1999) and recurring through the Legends young-readers line. He becomes a pilot, takes missions, rises to Master, and never carries a book.
He is here precisely because of that. The Jedi Apprentice series is the only body of Star Wars fiction that treats the Temple as a school with a cohort — friends, rivals, people who wash out, people who quietly succeed — and Garen is the cohort. In The Last of the Jedi he turns up again as one of the survivors of the Purge, injured and hidden, which lands only because you met him as a child.
