Myn Donos is a human male sniper and starfighter pilot, a founding member of Wraith Squadron and the only pilot of Talon Squadron to survive its destruction. He arrives in X-Wing: Wraith Squadron (Bantam Spectra, 1998) as a man who has, technically, passed his medical.
Aaron Allston built the unit out of pilots the New Republic was about to discharge, and Donos is the case where that policy looks least like a joke. He is barely functional under stress, kept flying by a squadron that has decided not to give up on him, and the novels do not pretend this is either safe or noble — his condition endangers other people, repeatedly, and the book says so.
His arc closes when he shoots down Apwar Trigit, the Imperial officer responsible for Talon Squadron, as Trigit attempts to escape. It is the most straightforwardly satisfying beat in the Wraith books, and Allston is careful to make it insufficient: killing the man does not return the squadron, and the novel keeps going afterwards.
Donos is Star Wars Legends. He is also one of the earliest sustained attempts anywhere in Star Wars fiction to write combat trauma as an ongoing condition rather than a motivating backstory, which is worth noting in a franchise that has usually preferred the second.
