Thalias is Che'ri's caregiver aboard the Springhawk in Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy (Del Rey, 2020–2021), and a former sky-walker herself — one of the girls whose navigational ability burned out and who was then returned to ordinary Chiss society with no particular provision made for her.
She is the trilogy's argument with its own premise. Thalias took the caregiver post specifically to give the next child what she did not get, and her adoption into the Mitth family across the three books is the closest thing the Ascendancy material has to a story about social mobility.
