Tyria Sarkin is a founding member of Wraith Squadron in Aaron Allston’s X-Wing: Wraith Squadron (Bantam Spectra, 1998) — the unit Wedge Antilles built in 7.5 ABY from pilots on the verge of discharge, on the theory that a commando outfit needs skills a flight academy does not test for.
She is the clearest illustration of that theory. Her raw piloting scores are the weakest in the squadron and she knows it; what keeps her in the cockpit is everything else she can do, and the novel is unusually honest about how precarious that position feels from inside.
