Bell Zettifar is a human male Jedi, introduced as a Padawan in The High Republic: Light of the Jedi (Del Rey, 2021). He serves at the Jedi outpost on Elphrona under Master Loden Greatstorm, accompanied by a charhound named Ember. His homeworld has not been established in the published material.

The apprentice's view

The High Republic initiative is unusually crowded, and Bell exists partly to solve that: he is junior enough that things have to be explained to him, and present at enough of the era's key events to carry the reader through them. That is a functional role, but the books give him a genuine arc inside it.

Loss as the through-line

What happens to his master in The Rising Storm is the era's first real demonstration that the Nihil are not simply raiders, and Bell spends several books processing a grief the Jedi Order's own teachings actively discourage him from processing. Watching a young Jedi be told that attachment is the problem, while attachment is plainly the only thing keeping him upright, is the most quietly subversive material in the initiative.

Canon only

A post-2014 creation; no Legends counterpart.

Reading note

He is the best argument for reading the High Republic novels and comics together rather than picking one. His story is deliberately distributed across both, and each fills gaps the other leaves.
