Castin Donn is a founding member of Wraith Squadron in Aaron Allston’s X-Wing: Wraith Squadron (Bantam Spectra, 1998), and the unit’s computer specialist — a slicer in a formation that needed one more than it needed another gifted stick-and-rudder pilot.
He is the case the novel uses to test its own premise hardest. A unit built from people with unconventional skills has to send those people into conventional danger, and the Wraith books are willing to show what happens when a specialist’s confidence outruns the situation.
