IG-88 is the battered chrome assassin droid standing in the line of bounty hunters Darth Vader assembles aboard the Executor in The Empire Strikes Back (1980). He does not speak, does not move much, and does not appear again.
Almost everything else about him is Expanded Universe construction, most famously Kevin J. Anderson's novella in the Legends anthology Tales of the Bounty Hunters (Bantam Spectra, 1996), which gives the IG-88 units a plan to seize the galaxy. That plan is Legends. The droid in the line-up is canon; the empire-building is not.
