Jagged Fel is a human fighter pilot raised in the Chiss Ascendancy in the Unknown Regions, son of the Imperial ace Baron Soontir Fel, and one of the New Jedi Order series' more successful additions. He first appears in Michael A. Stackpole's Dark Tide II: Ruin (Del Rey, June 2000).
Chiss discipline
The character's whole texture comes from having been brought up outside the galaxy's politics by a species that regards emotional display as a professional failing. He is formal to the point of seeming cold, flies with an exactness that unnerves the Rogues, and does not understand — for a long time — why the people around him keep taking his precision personally. It gives the Vong war a pilot who is not a wisecracker, which by 2000 the Expanded Universe badly needed.
Jaina
His relationship with Jaina Solo runs across three series and roughly fifteen novels, through the Vong war, through her turn as the Sword of the Jedi, through her killing her own brother, and finally to marriage at the close of Fate of the Jedi. It is the longest sustained romance in Legends and among the few given room to be difficult.
Head of State
He becomes Head of State of the Imperial Remnant during Legacy of the Force, which places a Fel at the head of the Empire — the dynastic groundwork for the Fel Empire of the Legacy comics a century later, where his descendants Roan Fel and Marasiah Fel hold the throne.
