Jas Emari is a Zabrak female bounty hunter working through the Galactic Civil War and the collapse that follows it, introduced by Chuck Wendig in Aftermath (Del Rey, 2015).

She arrives on Akiva to kill somebody and ends up part of Norra Wexley’s team, which is roughly the arc of the whole character: a professional who insists she works for money, in a trilogy that keeps handing her opportunities to prove otherwise and then watching her take them. Wendig plays the reluctance straight rather than winking at it.

Her value to the crew is target acquisition. She knows how to find a person who does not want to be found, which is precisely the problem a new government faces when several thousand Imperial officers disappear into the Outer Rim overnight. The Aftermath trilogy is largely a manhunt, and Jas is why it functions as one.

She belongs to a small and welcome group of post-2014 characters — with Qi’ra and Doctor Aphra — who occupy the moral territory Star Wars used to reserve for Han Solo and then never let anyone else into.
