Kol Skywalker is a human male Jedi Master, father of Cade Skywalker, created by John Ostrander and Jan Duursema for Dark Horse's Star Wars: Legacy. He debuted in the preview issue Legacy #0, published 7 June 2006, two weeks ahead of the first regular issue.

A character built out of flashbacks

His only real-time appearance is in Legacy #1, where he dies defending the Jedi academy during the Sith assault. Everything else the reader learns arrives second-hand — through Cade's memories, through other characters' accounts, through a time-collapse sequence later in the run. It is an unusual construction and it works: Kol functions less as a person than as the standard Cade has decided he cannot meet.

The Skywalker inheritance, compressed

Ostrander uses him to state the series' thesis in one issue — that the Order rebuilt by Luke was still, a century on, an institution that asked its people to die in defence of a temple. Cade's refusal of the whole apparatus starts here.
