Kreia, who held the Sith title Darth Traya, is a human Force scholar, exiled Jedi Master and the central figure of Obsidian Entertainment's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (2004). She was voiced by Sara Kestelman. She founded the Sith Triumvirate with Darth Nihilus and Darth Sion, and was betrayed and cast out by both.
A companion who argues with the game
Structurally she is your mentor and party member, and the writing uses that position to do something almost no other Star Wars work attempts: she criticises the player for playing. Give a beggar a credit and she will explain, at length, what you have actually done to him. She is not a hypocrite about it either — the critique is coherent, and the game declines to refute it.
The argument
Kreia's position is not that the dark side is good. It is that the Force is a will with an agenda, that both orders serve it rather than the other way round, and that a galaxy in which the Force decides outcomes is a galaxy where nobody's choices are their own. Her goal is not conquest. It is the end of the Force as a power in the universe. That is a genuinely strange thing for a Star Wars villain to want, and it is why the character has kept a reputation for twenty years.
Traya, the title
The Triumvirate is built out of three abstractions — betrayal, pain and hunger — and Kreia takes the first. The game is scrupulous about the irony: she is betrayed by her apprentices, she betrays her student, and she names herself for the thing she cannot stop doing.
The state of the game
The Sith Lords shipped in December 2004 to a compressed schedule and lost a substantial amount of its third act, including a large part of the ending. Anyone reading about the character today is reading about a performance that survived the cut rather than a finished work, and the long-running restoration project maintained by the game's fan community exists precisely because of that.
Canon status
Star Wars Legends. Kreia, the Triumvirate, Malachor V and the Jedi Exile are all on the Legends shelf, and current canon has never touched them.
Reading note
She has no quotes on this page for a reason. Kreia's dialogue is branching and reactive — the same idea reaches different players in different words — so a line quoted out of a walkthrough is not a line the character reliably says. This site does not print a quotation it cannot fix to a source.
