Maketh Tua is a human Imperial minister from Lothal, voiced by Kath Soucie in Star Wars Rebels from the first-season episode "Droids in Distress" (2014). An Imperial Academy graduate, she administered Lothal's industry and genuinely believed the Empire was improving the planet she came from.

Losing faith

Her disillusionment is procedural rather than moral, which is what makes it interesting. Grand Moff Tarkin arrives and executes subordinates for failing to catch rebels. Darth Vader threatens her personally. Tua works out — correctly — that the institution she serves will kill her for a poor quarter, and she starts looking for the exit.

The defection that was allowed to happen

She contacted the rebels, offering a list of Imperial sympathiser records in exchange for extraction. Vader anticipated all of it. The shuttle she boarded exploded, and the Empire broadcast the footage as a rebel assassination — turning Lothal's civilians against the insurgency and flushing out the Phoenix Cell in the process.

Why the episode matters

Because it is the show's clearest demonstration that the Empire's propaganda apparatus is a weapon system on the same footing as its walkers. Tua's death is not a punishment; it is content. She is more useful to the Empire as a martyr than she ever was as a minister.
