Mirax Terrik is a human female smuggler and freighter captain, born on Corellia, daughter of Booster Terrik and a childhood friend of Wedge Antilles. Michael A. Stackpole introduced her in the first X-Wing novel, Rogue Squadron (Bantam Spectra, 1996).
Her plot function is to be the civilian half of a military story — the person who can obtain things the New Republic quartermaster cannot, and who is not obliged to salute anyone. Her personal function is sharper. She eventually marries Corran Horn, whose late father was the Corellian Security officer who arrested hers. The X-Wing novels are not subtle about the feud and are surprisingly good on what it costs both of them to put it down.
She is the mother of Valin and Jysella Horn, which puts her at the root of one of the longer family threads in the Legends timeline, running out into the New Jedi Order and Legacy of the Force novels. When the Second Galactic Civil War comes, she and Iella Wessiri take refuge aboard her father’s Star Destroyer.
Mirax is Star Wars Legends throughout, and she is a useful reminder of what the Bantam programme was actually good at. Not epic — ensemble. The X-Wing books work because there is a bar, a freighter, a feud and a wedding somewhere behind the dogfights.
