Qimir, known also as the Master and the Stranger, is a human Sith Lord and the antagonist of the Disney+ series The Acolyte (2024), played by Manny Jacinto. He is a former Jedi Padawan of Vernestra Rwoh, and the series identifies his own master as Darth Plagueis.
The pitch
His stated goal is not conquest and not revenge. It is permission — the ability to use the Force as he wishes without an institution telling him the feeling is forbidden. That is a smaller and considerably more unsettling motive than the films usually give a Sith, and it lets the series argue about the Jedi Order rather than simply about power.
The cortosis helmet
His armour is made of cortosis, the material that shorts out a lightsaber blade on contact, which turns every duel with a Jedi into a fight they have not been trained for. It is the best new piece of Sith hardware the screen has produced in years and it does real narrative work: the Jedi lose because their advantage has been engineered away.
The High Republic setting
The series is set roughly a century before The Phantom Menace, which places Qimir inside the Rule of Two lineage but well before Plagueis takes Palpatine. Readers tracking the succession should note that the series shows a Sith master training acolytes plural, which sits in some tension with the doctrine and has not yet been reconciled on screen.
Canon status
Canon. Qimir was created for the 2024 series and has no Legends counterpart.
