Shalla Nelprin is a founding member of Wraith Squadron, the hybrid starfighter and commando unit created by Wedge Antilles in 7.5 ABY and introduced in Aaron Allston’s X-Wing: Wraith Squadron (Bantam Spectra, 1998).
Her value to the Wraiths is ground work — infiltration, close combat, the half of the job that happens after the fighters have landed. In a series that had spent four books teaching readers to care about flight tactics, the arrival of pilots who are better on foot than in a cockpit was a genuine change of register.
