Syril Karn is a human corporate security officer from Coruscant, played by Kyle Soller in Andor (2022–2025). He begins the series as a Deputy Inspector for the Preox-Morlana Corporation, investigating two dead officers on Morlana One — an investigation nobody wants him to pursue.
The disaster on Ferrix
He pursues it anyway, mounts an unauthorised operation on Ferrix to arrest Cassian Andor, and loses control of it entirely. ISB Supervisor Blevin holds him responsible for the casualties and the corporate embarrassment, and he is dismissed. He ends up living with his mother and processing fuel-purity paperwork at the Imperial Bureau of Standards, a job his uncle found for him.
The obsession
What makes Karn unusual is that his failure does not humble him; it concentrates him. He keeps filing reports, keeps chasing Andor, and eventually attracts the attention of ISB Supervisor Dedra Meero — first as a nuisance, then as a tool, then as something considerably harder to categorise. On Ferrix, in the riot at Maarva Andor's funeral, he pulls her out of a crowd and saves her life.
Ghorman
Season two sends him to Ghorman as part of the Empire's operation there, where he discovers, far too late, what he has actually been working for. He is shot dead by Ghorman Front leader Carro Rylanz during the massacre, in the eighth episode — killed by the resistance he helped manufacture, without ever getting the recognition he spent five years chasing.
The point of him
Karn is Andor's study of the person fascism recruits without ever promoting: not a believer in the ideology so much as a man desperate for an institution to tell him he did well. The show is unsentimental about him and, in the end, not unkind.
