Vima Sunrider is the daughter of Nomi Sunrider and the Jedi Andur Sunrider, born on H'ratth in 4000 BBY and an infant when her father was murdered. She grows up in the shadow of a mother who is running the Jedi Order and has no time to teach her, and the final Tales of the Jedi arc, Redemption (1998), is built on that: she seeks out a teacher, and the teacher she finds is Ulic Qel-Droma, severed from the Force and living alone on Rhen Var.

The idea — that a man who cannot touch the Force is still the best available teacher of it — is the best thing in the arc, and it is why Ulic's redemption lands at all. Vima was first mentioned in the 1993 Dark Empire Sourcebook and appears as an infant, a child and finally an adolescent across the comics; her descendant Vima Da-Boda turns up in the Dark Empire era.
