Elecia Zeveron — known to her followers only as the Mother — is a human woman from the Core Worlds who leads the Path of the Open Hand on Dalna around 382 BBY. She was introduced by Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland in Path of Deceit (2022), the first novel of the High Republic's Phase II.
The cult
The Path holds that the Force is a living thing that must be left alone, and that anyone who uses it — the Jedi above all — is committing a violation. Zeveron arrived at the commune as a refugee, was taken for a prophet on the strength of her visions, and displaced the previous leader. She is the sister of a Jedi Knight, Oliviah Zeveron, which the fiction does not treat as a coincidence.
The Leveler
What makes her more than a cult-leader sketch is what she is keeping: a creature the Path calls the Leveler, the first of the beings later known as the Nameless, which drains the Force from anyone sensitive to it and leaves the body as stone. She uses it as proof of doctrine and as a weapon. A century and a half later Marchion Ro will use its descendants to terrify an entire Jedi Order, and it will work for the same reason.
Where to read her
Path of Deceit, then George Mann's The Battle of Jedha (2023) and Zoraida Córdova's Convergence (2022) for the war her theology sets off.
