Iella Wessiri is a human female former officer of Corellian Security — CorSec — and, before the war took both of them somewhere else, Corran Horn’s partner on the force. She appears from the first X-Wing novel onward and becomes one of the New Republic’s most effective intelligence operatives.
Her presence is what stops the X-Wing series being only about flying. Iella works cases: surveillance, interrogation, the slow assembly of evidence. She assists the prosecutor Halla Ettyk at Tycho Celchu’s trial — which puts her, uncomfortably, on the side arguing that a Rogue murdered her own former partner — and the books are honest about how that lands with everyone involved.
She later marries Wedge Antilles; the reference literature files her as Iella Wessiri Antilles. Their daughters, Syal and Myri, carry the thread into the later Legends novels, and Myri ends up in Wraith Squadron — the sort of generational bookkeeping the Expanded Universe did better than anyone.
Iella is Star Wars Legends. If you want the canon equivalent of what she does — the detective inside a war — the closest thing on the modern shelf is the investigative half of Andor, which arrives at the same idea from the opposite direction.
