Juhani is a Cathar Jedi Guardian whose family fled the Mandalorian assault on Cathar and settled on Taris, where she grew up amid poverty and open xenophobia and was sold into slavery to clear her dead parents' debts. She was freed by Revan's Revanchists during the Mandalorian Wars and encouraged into the Order, training on Dantooine under Master Quatra.
She is also a landmark: writer David Gaider has said Juhani was the first time a same-sex romance came up at BioWare at all, and the writing team put her in without asking anyone's permission. She is technically optional — a dark-side path lets the player kill her — but Drew Karpyshyn's The Old Republic: Revan settled the Legends record: she was redeemed, joined the party, and continued as a Jedi. Her concept art was drawn while the character was still called Bastila Shan, which is why she wears that colour scheme.
