Airen Cracken is a human male who ran intelligence for the Alliance to Restore the Republic and then for the New Republic. He is a product of West End Games’ Star Wars roleplaying line — the Rebel Alliance Sourcebook appeared in 1990 and Cracken’s Rebel Field Guide, framed as his own briefing document, in 1991 — which makes him one of the most consequential characters the franchise ever created outside a novel or a film.

That origin is worth dwelling on, because the West End Games line is the invisible foundation of the entire Expanded Universe. Timothy Zahn was working from those sourcebooks when he wrote Heir to the Empire, and the Bantam novelists who followed inherited a galaxy that a tabletop design team had already furnished with ranks, procedures, equipment and people. Cracken is the clearest surviving fingerprint of that period.

His documented career is not comfortable. He used his own teenage son, Pash, as an agent, sending him into the Imperial Academy under a false identity. Between 10 ABY and 12 ABY he was replaced as Supreme Commander for Intelligence by Crix Madine, his counterpart at SpecForces — which consolidated the Republic’s two shadow services under a former Imperial commando.

Cracken is Star Wars Legends. His homeworld is left blank here, and this entry deliberately does not pin his very first printed appearance to a specific page: the sourcebook line is poorly indexed, and a reference site should say so rather than invent a citation.
