Jerec is a Miraluka Jedi Master and archaeologist who fell to the dark side and served the Empire as a High Inquisitor. He is the antagonist of LucasArts' Star Wars: Jedi Knight — Dark Forces II (1997), played in the game's live-action cutscenes by Christopher Neame.

The Miraluka detail

His species is born without eyes and perceives the world entirely through the Force. Jerec's blindfold is not an affectation and not a handicap: he sees, and what he sees is the Force itself. It is the most elegant idea in the character and the games use it well.

The Valley of the Jedi

What he is after is a site on Ruusan where the spirits of thousands of Jedi and Sith were bound at the end of an ancient war — a reservoir of Force energy that would make whoever taps it effectively unopposable. That location later became load-bearing for the Darth Bane novels, which is a striking case of a 1997 first-person shooter setting up the origin of the Rule of Two.

The Legends Inquisitorius

Jerec is worth reading against the Grand Inquisitor. Both are the Empire's chief Jedi hunter; they are not the same office. The Legends Inquisitorius was a loose set of Imperial dark siders operating with wide independence, and Jerec ends up an Imperial warlord in his own right after Endor. The 2014 canon organisation is tighter, newer and reports to Vader.

Canon status

Star Wars Legends. Jerec, the Valley of the Jedi and the Dark Forces continuity are Legends; the canon Inquisitorius is a separate invention.
