Porter Engle is an Ikkrukkian Jedi Master, born by 407 BBY, created by Charles Soule for Light of the Jedi (Del Rey, 2021). Soule has described him as the archetype of the old warrior called for one last battle — "more beard than man" — and the character mostly earns it.
The Blade of Bardotta
His nickname reached the public before he did: it appeared in a May 2020 letter from Lucasfilm Publishing creative director Michael Siglain on StarWars.com, announcing the initiative's pandemic delay. By the time the books arrived, "the Blade of Bardotta" had been sitting in fandom for eight months with nothing attached to it, which is a good way to build a legend.
Elphrona and the kitchen
At the outbreak of the Nihil crisis Engle is stationed at the small Jedi outpost on Elphrona alongside Loden Greatstorm, Indeera Stokes and the Padawan Bell Zettifar, and he does the cooking. The joke is load-bearing: the initiative's thesis is that the Jedi at their height were a service organisation rather than a military one, and the oldest and most dangerous person in the building making everyone dinner is the argument in miniature.
Barash Silvain
Charles Soule's 2022 Marvel miniseries The High Republic — The Blade goes back to 382 BBY and gives him a sister-in-all-but-blood, the Kage Jedi Barash Silvain, and a mission on Gansevor that goes catastrophically wrong. It is the origin of the Barash Vow, and it is the best Engle material there is.
